The Upwaltham Barns wedding of Caitlin and Josh

I always love the first wedding of the year.  Time to shake off the cobwebs, pick up the cameras and get out there and have some fun!  This season kicked off in style with the wedding of Caitlin and Josh at Upwaltham Barns.  It was also the first wedding of 2017 for this gorgeous venue and they have made some changes over the winter which look brilliant.

Caitlin and her bridesmaids were getting ready in the pretty Jasmine Cottage at Upwaltham.  This was a wedding where friends and family had truly played a part and so their hair and makeup was being done by friends so the atmosphere was great fun!  The girls all had matching pyjamas which looked fab in the photos.  Caitlin looked absolutely radiant as she was helped in to her dress by her Mum.  It is always lovely when Dad sees his daughter as a bride for the first time but I don’t think I have often seen a Dad more chuffed than Caitlin’s as he walked up the steps to see her.

The ceremony took place at the venue and the guests were all waiting with anticipation as the bridal party entered.  We have some amazing registrars in Chichester and this was the ceremony was both solemn and fun as the couple exchanged promises with each other.  Little ‘bullet’ showed his approval by kicking at the opportune moment!  The weather on the day threatened rain so guests threw flower petal confetti as the couple made their way back down the aisle.  Fortunately the rain held off and we were able to take all the group shots outside, which is always a bonus.

Due to heavy rain in the days before the wedding we made use of the immediate surroundings of the barns for the couple shots, fortunately there are lots of options when the fields are muddy, I love the look of the pink and grey colour scheme against the corrugated barn doors.  A quick group shot and everyone made their way in to dinner in the beautifully decorated South Barn.  Caitlin’s Mum had arranged all the flowers for this wedding and also made the cake – I couldn’t believe this was her first attempt, it looked incredible!  Favours were rose bath salts for the ladies and smoked chilli salt for the guys, as Josh said in his speech, I hope no one mixed these up!  On the table were bottles of plum vodka also made for the couple and used on regular occasions to toast just about anything!  It happened to be National Pie Week so it was fitting that the team from Nibbles to Nosh served guests with home made chicken pies – I was fortunate to have one for my dinner – totally scrumptious!

After the meal and speeches we took a few more low light images of Caitlin and Josh and I just had to make use of the wire and bead cows heads flown over from South Africa for the occasion.  I think Josh and Mr Smith are still in discussion about how many cows he owes for Caitlin!  One the evening guests had arrived, the couple cut their cake and kicked off the dancing to music provide by Two Beats and The Boombox Disco.

2017 is promising to be a fantastic year and I look forward to many more lovely weddings!  If you are planning an Upwaltham Barns wedding I would love to discuss your wedding photography with you, please do get in touch!
