Summer weddings are lovely but I think I have a particular soft spot for Autumn wedding photography. Gorgeous colours, spectacular golden hours (this is the hour or so before the sun sets) and the challenge these weddings present all appeal to me as a wedding photographer. Matt and Jess were married at Southend Barns on November 5th last year in a fun filled day where the weather played nicely all day!
I began the day with the girls in the Milking Parlour at Southend Barns where the girls from ID Makeup, Hair and Beauty were working their magic on Jess and her bridesmaids. They are such a great team to work with and Jess and there girls looked beautiful! The boys were at The Blacksmiths pub just down the road so I was also able to sneak along there and get some photographs of them before they arrived at the barns.
As the guests gathered in the Threshing Yard the excitement grew as Jess was helped in to her amazing dress by Vera Wang. The most radiant bride, she really never stopped smiling all day long. With all the guests in the Dairy Barn, Jess entered to see her Groom Matt waiting for her at the end of the aisle. Vows exchanged and register signed, everyone made their way outside for canapés and drinks served by the ever fabulous Field and Fork.
As the sun was attempting to shine, we were able to take the family shots outside in the gardens and then incredibly, we had the most amazing light for a short while so Matt, Jess and I sneaked away to get some photographs of the two of them together.
The Threshing Barn was beautifully decorated with simple table centres of books from their childhoods and a table plan and cake made by friends and family. The atmosphere was lovely and warm and cosy as everyone enjoyed a warming dinner. After the speeches we took the opportunity to do a few creative shots in the Dairy Barn, I always bring a box of lighting tricks to every wedding so shooting after dark is not a problem.
Jess and Matt cut their cake and then did their first dance to their live band, Spice Fusion. Music is a huge part of their lives so it was no surprise that they had such a fantastic 10 piece band who got everyone dancing! As a final surprise for everyone, they were ushered outside where Selstar Fireworks put on a display over the barns. It was a perfect way to end my day with them.
I loved photographing Jess and Matt’s Autumn wedding for them at Southend Barns and I wish them every happiness for the future.
